Lex Brodie’s salutes Captain Charles Neumann for going Above & Beyond the call of duty!

Captain Charles Neumann is the Commander of Bravo Company and Warrior Transition Battalion, a program which is geared to help soldiers who have been injured in the line of duty. He has helped countless soldiers throughout his time of service with his support and encouragement. In the past few months Capt. Neumann has been working with a fellow soldier by the name of Phillip Cornejo in the Warrior Transition Battalion who severely injured his foot. Despite the doctors’ estimations that Phillip would never run normally again, Capt. Neumann continued to encourage him. He led Phillip to accomplish his goal of finishing the Great Aloha Race. He started the race with his wheelchair but unfortunately within minutes of starting the race one of the wheels broke. Phillip Cornejo, Spc was discouraged but Capt. Neumann put his arm around him and said, “Let’s do this together!” Capt. Neumann did the Buddy Walk with Phillip, carried his gear, and offered his shoulder throughout the entire race. His unfailing dedication, support, and encouragement goes “Above and Beyond” the call of duty.

Nomination Letter:

I am writing this letter to let you know how much fun I had participating in the Great Aloha Run and to say thanks to CPT Neumann my Company Commander for making it happen for me. In my life as an Apache it is our way to insure that we give thanks and recognize those who make a difference in our life.

He has done this for me. I was told on numerous occasions by doctors that I would not be able to run again, possibly ever.

I spoke with him and he gave me hope that we would find a way to make the Aloha Run happen and he would stand by me if needed, and carry me if he had to. During the run my wheelchair broke and I had no choice but to complete the run on foot. He stood by me offered his shoulder, carried my gear, and kept me motivated to complete this run. I can honestly say that if he, Maj.

Tugas, and 1st Sergeant Burnett had not been there to support and constantly cheer me on I do not think I could have completed the run.

We did it in under 2 hours, I was so happy to pass all these loafers who were just lolly gaggin.  Again, Aheheya which is thank you in Apache and as we say in Hawaii, mahalo nui loa!

Very Respectfully Submitted,
Phillip Cornejo, Spc"
